If you have tried many brands of OTC medications (including those used to treat ulcers and stomach ulcers) or been prescribed Nexium (esomeprazole) as a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), you’ll be shocked at the cost of your health and well being.

Nexium (esomeprazole) is a prescription medication used to treat symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), ulcers, and other conditions that cause stomach acid to build up in the stomach. It is available as a tablet and an oral suspension that can be taken with or without food. Nexium is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that blocks the production of stomach acid by reducing the amount of acid the stomach produces. Nexium helps to treat conditions that cause heartburn, stomach pain, acid reflux, and other symptoms of GERD, including GERos, stomach ulcers, and heartburn. Nexium is a common treatment option for people with conditions such as GERD and heartburn.

Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that is used to treat conditions such as GERD, heartburn, acid reflux, and ulcers. It works by reducing the amount of acid the stomach produces and preventing the stomach acid from being absorbed through the esophagus, a common area of the mouth. Nexium is not approved for use in children under the age of six. Nexium can also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

If you have experienced side effects from taking Nexium, such as vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, loss of appetite, or headache, talk to your doctor about whether it is safe for you to take Nexium. Tell your doctor if you are taking proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), such as esomeprazole (Nexus), omeprazole (Prilosec), pantoprazole (Protonix), lansoprazole (Prevacid), rabeprazole (Aciphex), or other PPIs that are taken by mouth. You may need to stop taking Nexium and call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if you develop a new or worsening symptoms of GERD, ulcers, heartburn, or stomach pain. Nexium can cause more serious side effects, including:

  • Hair loss
  • Swelling in the face, tongue, or throat
  • Low blood pressure
  • Fever
  • Loss of appetite
  • Stomach pain
  • Irregular heart rhythm

To make sure Nexium is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to esomeprazole, omeprazole, pantoprazole, lansoprazole, rabeprazole, or other PPIs. Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medications, including other proton pump inhibitors (such as amiodarone, disopyramide, doxazosin, doxepin, procainamide, quinapril, sotalol).

Esomeprazole can cause serious stomach pain if taken with food.

Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medications, including any that you get on breakfast or school meals. Some medicines can affect how esomeprazole works.

Esomeprazole may be affected by other drugs you take, including certain over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

Protein binding Esomeprazole (40mg) esomeprazole ester[1] is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) and other gastric disorders. Esomeprazole is a PPI, which means it can bind to stomach acid and prevent the flow of acid into the esophagus. When esomeprazole is taken by mouth, it causes a gradual loss of stomach acid, which can result in heartburn, acid reflux, and worsening the symptoms of GERD.
